ALL THE CONTENT

Every week, a new story.

For almost a year now, I’ve been telling a story a week on our TikTok Channel. Just today, I recorded the next two stories. They’re usually five parts, one part each weekday. I have a lot of fun with them, and more than a few I want to turn into full novels.

But I gotta tell you: It’s kinda hard keeping up the pace.

Every week, I generate a lot of very different content.

  • Since I write a novel a month, every week I write about a quarter of a novel.
  • Every week, a five-part story for our TikTok channel.
  • Usually five to ten additional Tiktok things; typically having to do with being a reader, like 15-second book reviews.
  • A blog post most weeks! Like this one!
  • I will typically attempt to encourage another writer or writers in various, um, writing groups, and that usually involves, you guessed it, writing.
  • In my “day job” as a pastor, I’ll also write and deliver at least one sermon every week. I’ll also write and post five devotions a week. There’s also a number of other writing-intense activities, such as letters.

And what that means is… I just do a lot of writing. And I need a lot of ideas to keep everything moving.

Now, I have no problems with the novels and ideas. I’m plotted out for novels for the next several years. I need no help with ideas there!

And the pastor stuff? The Bible is so, so deep, I have no problem with sermons or devotions or anything with that. It helps that I’m not really doing anything more than explaining what’s there!

Blogging can be difficult if it’s been a relatively quiet week. What do I write about this time?

But a new story every week for TikTok? And because the storytelling is confined to a relatively short space, it can take a lot of creativity to achieve my goal. Not every story works in that format!

So when I get days like today, where I was able to make two five-part stories, well, they’re kinda special. In fact, one of the stories that I recorded today (and hopefully will get posted next week) may end up being turned into an entire book or twelve. In all my spare time.

But the fun part of all this? Each kind of writing uses a different part of my creativity. What works as a novel would never work as a sermon wouldn’t work as a blog post wouldn’t work as a Tiktok story. Which also means if I’m having a day where one kind of writing isn’t working, I can just switch gears and try another.

And that’s a lot of fun.

Anyway, feel free to visit me on Tiktok and check out the stories there!

  1. Wow, friend. I am amazed to see how you’re using your gifts- you’re pretty inspiring, you know? 🙂 I’ve got to catch up on some of this, and now, for the first time, I’m actually curious about TikTok!
